Job Summary
We are seeking a detail-oriented and strategic Purchaser to join our team. The Purchaser is responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring goods and services essential to the operation of housing and shelter programs. This role ensures that procurement activities align with organizational values and fiscal responsibility. This position is based out of Vernon, but will require occasional travel between West Kelowna and Vernon.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for sourcing, negotiating, and procuring materials and supplies necessary for our operations. This role requires a strong understanding of supply chain management and vendor relationships to ensure timely delivery and cost-effective purchasing decisions.

Key Responsibilities
Procurement & Vendor Management
· Source and evaluate suppliers for housing, shelter, and administrative needs to procure high-quality materials at competitive prices.
· Negotiate pricing, terms, and delivery schedules with vendors.
· Maintain positive vendor relationships and ensure compliance with contracts and service agreements.
· Inventory & Supply Chain Oversight
· Monitor and manage inventory levels across multiple shelters and housing sites.
· Coordinate timely delivery of supplies, furnishings, food, and maintenance materials.
· Track and reconcile purchase orders, receipts, and invoices.
· Financial Accountability
· Ensure purchases align with approved budgets and funding guidelines.
· Collaborate with finance staff to support audits, reporting, and budget forecasting.
· Maintain accurate records of all procurement activities.
· Policy & Compliance
· Adhere to internal procurement policies and community subsector collective agreements.
· Ensure compliance with funder requirements and relevant legislation.
· Support sustainability and ethical sourcing practices.
· Cross-Departmental Collaboration
· Work closely with site managers, program coordinators, and outreach teams to assess procurement needs.
· Participate in planning for new shelter initiatives and capital projects..

Qualifications
Post-secondary education in Business Administration, Supply Chain Management, or related field.
Minimum 2 years of purchasing or procurement experience, preferably in a nonprofit or housing-related setting.
Strong negotiation, organizational, and communication skills.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office and procurement software.
Understanding trauma-informed and equity-based service delivery is an asset.
Occupational First Aid Level 1.
Basic CPR certification.
Managing Hostile Interactions training an asset Naloxone administration training an asset Valid BC Driver’s Licence and access to a reliable vehicle is mandatory
Strong ability to manage stress and organize workload.
Strong physical and mental ability to perform work task and operate job related equipment.
Excellent verbal and written communication, organizational skills and the ability to maintain detailed and accurate records.
Criminal Record Clearance-Vulnerable Sector-required.
Working Conditions Office-based with occasional travel to shelter and housing sites; purchase pick-ups
May require lifting and transporting supplies.

Flexible schedule may be required to meet operational needs.
Job Types: Full-time, Permanent
Pay: $28.49-$31.61 per hour
Expected hours: 40 per week
