Chambers and boards of trade from Penticton, West Kelowna, Kelowna and Vernon have partnered to form the Okanagan Business Advisory Council (OBAC), according to a news release. “By joining this council, we’re ensuring that Penticton’s business community has a strong, united voice when addressing key regional and provincial issues,” said Jordan Knox, president of the Penticton & Wine Country Chamber of Commerce. The new group’s first joint initiative will be on Nov. 12, as members of all four chambers discuss policy priorities for 2026 at the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce’s annual Policy Development Forum. “Having the weight of our entire region when doing advocacy work is critical for our members when dealing with all levels of government — municipal, regional, provincial and national,” Knox said. Michael Magnusson, executive director of Penticton’s chamber, said the alliance will allow businesses from across the region to work together on commonly shared issues. “Transportation, agriculture, economic policy — we all face similar issues and are stronger when we look for common solutions,” echoed Sonja Harkness, Greater Vernon Chamber’s new executive director.“Our chamber is keen to get more involved in valleywide policy and advocacy issues.” The OBAC builds off an existing partnership between the Kelowna Chamber and the Greater Westside Board of Trade. When adding Penticton and Vernon-based chamber groups, the valley-wide alliance will represent and advocate for thousands of businesses across several industries, the news release stated.
