North Okanagan residents urged to support local businesses

MARCH 16, 2020 – The Greater Vernon Chamber is asking residents to do their part to support each other, including local business owners.
“We understand that there is considerable anxiety over the Covid-19 virus, and we are particularly hearing from our members that the situation is having an impact on their operations,” said Krystin Kempton, Greater Vernon Chamber president.
“It is important to point out that all businesses in Greater Vernon, big and small, are important. They provide employment opportunities to our friends and family, and they donate to sports teams, youth groups and non-profit organizations. Business is at the heart of our community.”
Social distancing is important at this time, but there are substantial ways that North Okanagan residents can help provide continuity to our businesses.
“Buy gift certificates from your favourite restaurant, shop or hair stylist. Even if you don’t need anything at the moment, you can save it for later while helping businesses financially now. It’s never too early to plan for upcoming birthdays and holidays,” said Kempton. 
“Inquire about delivery options from businesses or a local courier and reach out to businesses directly to see if they have innovative ways to provide their products or services.”

“We also encourage residents to remember the role of local non-profits. They provide vital services and employ thousands of people, and they are always there for us. We need to be there for them,” said Kempton.
