Airport safety and travel focus of Chamber town hall
VERNON – Greater Vernon Chamber members have an opportunity to learn more about safety measures initiated within the aviation sector and the future vision of Kelowna International Airport.
On March 31, the Chamber’s virtual town hall will feature Sam Samaddar, the longtime director of Kelowna International Airport (YLW).
“YLW is a significant catalyst for the local economy as it’s the gateway for tourists and investors as well as local businesses promoting their goods and services internationally,” said Dan Proulx, Greater Vernon Chamber general manager.
“The past year has been challenging for YLW and the aviation industry but we know significant steps have been taken to ensure passenger safety and to prepare the sector for pent-up demand once travel is encouraged. We look forward to hearing about long-term capital enhancements at YLW and its contributions to the region.”
Samaddar began his aviation career at Vancouver International Airport in 1988 and in 1991, he moved to Kelowna International Airport where he has held numerous positions. In 2008, he was appointed airport director of YLW, which is one of Canada’s top 10 busiest airports. Samaddar is involved in Tourism Kelowna, the Central Okanagan Economic Development Commission, Airports Council International and the Canadian Airports Council.
The March 31 town hall runs from 2:30 to 3:30 p.m. For more information and to register, Chamber members can go to https://business.vernonchamber.ca/events/calendar
