About Us

The Literacy Society of the North Okanagan is a registered charity located in Vernon, BC. We have been providing literacy programs and services for all ages in the community since 2007. We work with community partners to identify literacy gaps in the community and then work with our partners to find ways to fill those gaps.
Not limited to programs, we also host events such as Story Window Walks, participate in community projects, and provide services in collaboration with other partners. We offer our programs to learners and participants at no cost.
Current programs and projects include;
• Reading Together: One to one reading in School District 22 elementary schools.
• Skills Boost: After school project-based learning for small groups in partnership with BGC and SD22
• Digital Support: Adult digital support workshops and one to one support for adults and seniors.
• Books for Babies & Kindies: We provide the local Health Unit with books for babies and children at immunization time. Over 1200 books are provided each year.
