Optimist U18 Provincial Curling Championships
The Salmon Arm Curling Centre (“SACC”) will be hosting this event as part of Curl BC mandate to provide competitive curling events throughout the province. Teams from across the province have been competing in regional playdowns to win a spot in this event. There will be 16 teams competing: 8 boys’ teams and 8 girls’ teams. The age of the curlers will all be under 18 and may be as young as 13. There are 4 team members; some teams will bring a 5th player as a spare plus a coach (a parent or a separate individual). On March 13 the round robin event begins and will finish with a play off on the weekend. The Opening ceremonies are scheduled for the afternoon of Tuesday, March 13 and the closing ceremonies will be on Sunday, March 18 after the final draw (winning event). The winning boy’s and girl’s teams will represent BC at the Canadian Nations in St. Andrews, New Brunswick. To provide a little background, the Optimist U18 Provincial Curling Championships (18 years and under) is a separate event from the Provincial Junior Curling Championships (21 years and under) and was created to provide an opportunity for younger curlers to build teams and develop skills outside regular league curling in a competitive structure.
