Family Obligations and the Workplace: What Employers Need to Know
Veronica Ukrainetz and Pamela Connolly, of Ukrainetz Workplace Law Group, a management side employment, labour and human rights law firm based out of Vernon, British Columbia will address the workplace challenges employers face when employees experience family related challenges, which are all the more challenging during a pandemic! Family obligations put pressure on an employee’s ability to attend work on time, stay at work, minimize time away from work, and while at work - whether the work is “in office” or “remote”- remain focused on work. Veronica and Pamela will help Employers understand when they have a Human Rights obligation to accommodate family issues; when the Employment Standards Act CoVid-19 job protected leave applies; how to address PHO’s mandating (or not) remote work and provide suggestions as to how to resolve these issues in a positive, constructive manner.
